LA WEIGHT LOSS: Centers Closing Nationwide (updated 9/19/08)

September 19, 2008 by Sean Kelly

(Franchise Pick)  LA Weight Loss centers continue to close without a word to the press or communication with their customers.  The website Weight Loss Complaints compiles a list of recent and upcoming LA Weight Loss center closings from news reports, rumors and tips posted by customers and employees.  Read about them here:

LA WEIGHT LOSS CENTER CLOSINGS (updated 9/29/08)

LA Weight Loss Closings: McMinnville, Oregon, Sherwood, Oregon

LA Weight Loss Closings: Poway, San Diego Centers to Close This Week

LA WEIGHT LOSS RUMORS: Nashville Market to Close in October

LA WEIGHT LOSS: Texas Centers Reportedly to Close 9/26

LA WEIGHT LOSS: Oklahoma Centers Rumored to Close in October

LA WEIGHT LOSS EMPLOYEES: “How do you sleep at night?”

LA WEIGHT LOSS: Bakersfield, CA Centers Reportedly Closing

LA WEIGHT LOSS: Evansville, IN Center Sold Memberships a Week Before Closing

Admittedly, these are anonymous tips – yet they have proven remarkably accurate.

There are reports of LAWL employees selling long-term contracts up to the same day of the announcement that the center would be closing.  If you are an LA Weight Loss customer, at the very least avoid long-term prepayments and always pay with a credit card – never cash or check.  That way you can appeal to the credit card company to charge-back the amount you paid for products and services you never received.

  1. Marie P. says:

My younger sister was just sent to a two week training to become a consulant. She quit her desent paying job of several years to work for LA Weight Loss. She had been a client and lost a significant amount of weight with the program and was true believer in the company. She was just notified after just one full week of work that her store is closing and that she has to find a new job.
In my opinion it is not just the clients that are getting the shaft but also some of the employees.

I just got a call from a current LAWT employee telling me that her center has not only cut hours, but was just told it was going to close on Thursdays. Wake up people..The entire company is closing. I used to be an employee also and was terribly relieved to leave. Helping people was a great and wonderful challenge, but the business ethics behind the scenes were terrible. It’s no wonder they are closing. I won’t mention the centers that have cut hours, but I know and believe that ALL Washington and Oregon centers are going to be next.

  3. ww says:

I just got a call from another employee that I used to work with at LAWL and she said that the manager of her center suspects that they may be closing soon. They are having her oversee 2 centers now and she will probably leave soon as she is concerned with the ethical integrity of the management. They may continue asking her to sell programs when she is thinking they will close soon. Not good. I hope she leaves very soon. I would hate to be in her shoes….like I said….watch out….Oregon and Washington State are next.

  4. Tracie says:

Any idea if this massive closing of LAWL is happening in Ontario, Canada??

It’s true, all the Madison market was informed yesterday that we are closing. This is after we had a conference call the day before assuring us that we were not closing. NICE! The assured us that we would get 6 weeks notice to clients and the employees, when in realilty we were given 6 minutes notice. Everyone was laid off minus the managers who get the pleasure of dealing with the rath of the ticked clients (sarcasm). They said our last day will be December 12, when in reality we will be closed before Thanksgiving. No one is getting their PTO time that they have coming to them, we are losing insurance, our paychecks and our pride. They don’t have to face any of the clients at the grocery stores, church, restaurants, walking down the streets the way we do and it makes me sick to think they can do this. If you are still working for LA, I would make sure you take your PTO while you can, and then quit! ALL CENTERS will closing. They lied to us and said that we were the stongest market and we weren’t they are going to fill your heads with the lies too. GOOD LUCK to all that are left.

  8. ritajwilson says:

    More closings:

    Green Bay, WI
    Sheyobogan, WI
    Appleton, WI
    Oshkosh, WI

These were just announced this morning!

    CANADA

Haven’t heard of anything regarding Canada, but be watchful of all the closing signs. First cut hours, then product not showing up, then certain days of the week the center closes. Also look for centers merging and layoffs. Can’t someone contact a major news network and ask them to investigate and warn about what is happening? Perhaps then, a lot of people could be saved some money before they sign up or sink a ton of money into their program that they will never get back. This is so unbelievably unethical. I sent a letter to CNN. Maybe all of you could write a letter, let me know and we can join forces to stop other people from getting totally ripped off not only monetarily but emotionally. For those of us who have been employee’s, we know the emotional strength it takes for our clients to have the guts to even walk through the front door. I’m angry and disgusted…

  10. Cheryl Lynn says:

I have completed my 52 weeks of maintenance.
I had a hard time getting my 1st rebate check after the 26 weeks of maintenance. Turned in a
complaint with the Oregon Atty General’s office and finally got that rebate. Now I’m back fighting for the 2nd rebate. I am trying to get all
my bulk purchases before the doors close. This
company is a real scam. The program worked but they try to run the company w/money pd up
front by people and then don’t have the money to pay the promises they advertise and have in
written contracts. This was a very good lesson
learned about paying for anything up front and
hoping you will get your product. I am a fighter and will continue to get what is coming to me.
Even the Oregon center still open (Tigard) tried to deny me more LA lites (pd for over 1 year ago) because they need them for clients! What?
They’ve had my money for those bars for over 1 year!! I am one the of clients! ALWAYS do research before signing up for anything!

  11. tammy says:

I went to weigh-in on Friday OCt.31,2008. Inside a woman was packing boxes. I saw files all over the place. She refused to open the door. She said she was going to lunch. I waited for two hours outside the office. When she noticed that a line was forming outside, she allowed all of us inside the building. When I asked to see the manager, she said that all the staff was fired for stealing from the business. She stated she was from the corporate office. Very strange situation. I was basically told “Good Luck getting a refund.” Your best bet is to do “LA on the GO Program. I am going to talk to mastercard to see if they can help. However, they are offering and selling products (they have limited amounts) to help fill orders. Really concerned that I am out of my prepaid contract. Any suggestions. Thanks My contract was prepaid for over 1300.00.

    WHERE IS YOUR CENTER LOCATED?

  13. Tracie says:

    HOOVER ALABAMA
    TRUSSVILLE ALABAMA
    GARDENDALE ALABAMA
    280 CENTER INVERNESS ALABAMA
TUSCALOOSA ALABAMA ALL WILL BE CLOSED BY THE END OF NOVEMBER!!!!!!!!!!!

  14. Nancy says:

Are any KY LAWL centers still open, speically in Lex KY?

  15. Monika says:

    CANADA CENTRES CLOSING!!!!

Im from Ontario and went to my centre and was told all of ontario centres will be closed by the end of November and that they are giving us our personal file and enrolling us into the online version of LA to continue the program. Again like the rest of you I did not recieve a reason for the closure. The woman said corporate did not tell the employees what is happening either. This is crazy! BUT compared to the US they are not allowing people to join the program and they havn’t since they knew they are closing so I feel bad for those in the states that were scammed!

  16. Nissa says:

    What about MN?

Heard a rumor today that they have all closed. I went to my center in Eagan and they had a sign up saying they were no longer open on Tuesday and Thursdays. I just paid to renew my weeks in order to be eligible for the rebate and bought a huge bulk of bars. I tried to call the various twin city locations. All of them go to voicemail. I read this and have disputed my recent charges with my bank and credit card. Anyone else have any more information???

  17. Stacy says:

The MN stores are closing. I just heard this on Monday. I go to the Coon Rapids store. She stated the last day they are open is on Dec 19th. And they are closed tues and thurs now too. They don’t have any bars left when I went there and there is only 1 person working there. She stated that when I come next they would go over what the plan is. I prebought all my bars and plan and it was close to $1300 also. I hope we are able to get something back. I will have to look at my contract to see what happens. I do believe that this program works, but this is not a way to run things. I am not happy about this. What do we do now?

  18. ww says:

    NISSA
Keep fighting your bank. Threaten to call the Attorney General. Tell your bank to go to Rippoff report online and type in LA Weightloss and they will see how many people have purchased product they will never see…..Also, I would just call the Attorney General. LAWL has been in deep trouble with the AT in Oregon and Washington State as well as a few other states. You will not get your money back unless you fight for it.

  19. ww says:

Don’t do the ONLINE program either. It is a ripoff. It’s not the program you signed up for and you will not get the service you purchased. It’s just a way to keep you baited until they actually close country wide. With all the lawsuits, do you think they can really stay open at all? What a joke and a ripoff….Call the Attorney General so someone will just shut them down…

  20. ww says:

    STACY
I would either cancel with your bank or credit card if you paid with one of them. Do all you can to get your money back. You will not see a refund, but still put a call into the Attorney General and get yourself a lawyer.

I would either cancel with your bank or credit card if you paid with one of them. Do all you can to get your money back. You will not see a refund, but still put a call into the Attorney General and get yourself a lawyer. You will not get good service at this point. Yes, the plan is awesome and it works…it’s one of the best out there, but I personally know and have read across the internet, that when most centers give a closing date, they suddenly close way ahead of given time. So don’t be surprised if you show up tomorrow and they are shut down. Good luck and I’m very sad and sorry for you.

  22. TJ Baldinell says:

I started with LA Weight Loss Center in Albuquerque, NM in Jan. of 07 and even took out a $2000.00 Care Credit Card so I could buy in bulk and save. May 1st I receive a generic letter
that the stores had close. I lost my $ 450.00 to sign up and also had to pay off the $2000.00 care credit.
I called LA Franchise office many times and they would not get back with me.
I hope they all close, The lady that had these stores filed bankruptcy and I can not get a penny back.

  23. Aleo says:

Add Atlantic Canada to the closing list. As of Dec 5th the 9 centres there will close their doors.

  24. sara says:

Hi I am sara. I need to contact someone about this center in panama city florida how do I do that?
