LaCie Provides Optical Drive Solution for Netbooks

The expanding popularity of netbooks have brought with it the need for peripherals to extend the capabilities of the smaller computer device. LaCie, who’s been providing storage and expansion solutions for years, now has portable optical drive available for netbook use.

The LaCie Portable DVD±RW optical drive is a rewritable drive with all the features you need in a DVD drive of this type. Since you’re purchasing it to use with your netbook, it’s got to be lightweight and mobile. There’s no sense in having a peripheral that takes more effort to haul around than the netbook itself right? Another feature that backs up that need is that the drive is USB powered so there’s no need for an additional power cord.

I’ve never really experienced the benefits of a LightScribe enabled optical drive, I’m just not sure of the real-world value it would have. If I were distributing discs I was burning for other people’s use of some sort perhaps, but for me it’s not a must-have feature, even though this drive does have it.
