Land Paddling With A Kahuna Big Stick

I’ve never skate-boarded, per se. I always wanted to as a kid but we never had the places to do it where I lived in upstate New York. I tried a few times but just never go in to it enough to say that I actually skate board. Surfing was something I wanted to try my hand at as well, but the closest I ever came was snowboarding and I never did get any good at that the few times I did it.
All three of these sports, contrary to what some may think, take a certain kind of athleticism that you have to work hard at and develop.
Paddling any kind of watercraft, whether it’s a canoe, catamaran or whatever is hard work too. I hated canoeing as a kid, especially when my father used to take me fishing down some of the streams and rivers. Going downstream was no biggie, but getting back could be a real pain in the…shoulders, arms, chest, abs and back. Back then I didn’t have the appreciation for hard work and physical exercise that I do now.
Kahuna Creations, has combined long board skate-boarding with paddling with The Big Stick. Keep your feet on the board and use a Big Stick like a paddle on the pavement. The Big Stick varies in length and flexibility, depending on the user preference. The handle is shaped like a paddle and on the end is what looks like a pair of rubber wheels, but they don’t roll. They are simply carbon rubber pads to grip the pavement for thrust, brake and control. The Big Stick brings Stand Up Paddle to the streets. Stand up paddle, if you’re not familiar is like surfing with…a paddle. The Big Sticks are made from Bamboo and Douglas Fir, depending on which model you use and how much flexibility you want.
I haven’t done this, but I could definitely see myself trying, perhaps one day. It looks like it could be a great workout while having some fun too. You can find more information at Kahuna Creation online. They also sell longboard skate boards if you’re in the market for one of those too.
