Lara Croft is Getting a Makeover

Considering the disappointing sales suffered by Tomb Raider: Underworld, it’s no wonder that Eidos is scrambling around to save their infamous hero from a repeat performance. The company has its sights set on making Lara Croft a little more “female friendly” in the hopes that this will improve sales.

What? Female gamers? I thought those were a myth? /sarcasm

Perhaps something good can come of the downward-spiraling economy: innovation. I’m sure Eidos knows that in order to get more money in their pockets, they need to appeal to a wider market.

But I have no idea what they mean by “female friendly.” Tomb Raider has always been one of my favorite series and Lara Croft one of my favorite game characters. I hope they don’t start painting everything pink in an effort to make things more “female friendly.”

To be honest, the Tomb Raider franchise is going to need more than pink ribbons and smaller boobs to fix the problem. Most gamers I know (male and female) seem to have moved on from Tomb Raider in general.

If Eidos wants Tomb Raider to be a hit again (if it’s even possible for it to be a hit again) they’re going to have to go back to the drawing board and innovate their butts off. Easier set than done, though.

I’ll be looking forward to the next game, all the same.

What do you guys think? Is it too late for Lara Croft?
