Larry Johnson carries the Chiefs over the Broncos

NFL Football at its best. NFL Football at its craziest.

Johnson dives for 6

Larry JohnsonYou try to tell Herm Edwards, the Kansas City coach, that it is ok to pass the ball, but he won’t have any of it. “You win by running”, he will say.

Now with an attitude like that it sure helps to have Larry Johnson at running back. And Larry sure helped the Chiefs to beat Denver 19 – 10 in the late game of the NFL Turkey Triple Header.

Larry has been dominant in the Fantasy Football world as well as in the regular real world NFL. (Squibster full disclosure – Larry is on my Fantasy Football Team and mostly responsible for the success of the team)

KC had some problems earlier in the year with injuries to its offensive line. During that time big Tony Gonzalez had to stay at home and block to help out. Then Big Tony got hurt. Also earlier, the quarterback, Trent Green had a concussion and could not play for weeks. Damon Huard had to come on at QB and did a great job.

Well, don’t look now, but Big Tony, Trent, and the offensive line are back and somewhat healthy. At this stage of the season, somewhat healthy is about as healthy as one gets. This is great news for the Chiefs and Larry.

Larry leads the league in rushing

Larry came into the game leading the league in rushing and with the 157 yards against Denver, he will probably widen the lead. Even more importantly, it was done against division rival Denver, a team that has barely allowed more than 100 yards rushing per game.

The Chiefs future with Larry Johnson

So let’s take a look at KC’s future. With San Diego hosting the Oakland Hair Braiders, the Chargers most likely will hold onto first place.

Add in the fact that the Chiefs have tough games against Baltimore, San Diego, and Jacksonville still on their schedules and two easier road matchups with Cleveland and Oakland, and you can see that the Chiefs have a tough road ahead to catch the Chargers. Not to mention the fact that Denver is still tied with KC.

But Coach Herm Edwards does not care. He will just keep on running Larry Johnson to victory!

NFL Football Fan Question In spite of leading the league in rushing, many think LaDainian Tomlinson is the best back. What do you think? Can KC win the division?

As always, any NFL Football related comments are welcome.
