Last Call For Free Beer For Molson Retirees
– Benefits Issue May Come To A Head As Union Vows to Tap Legal Options to Challenge Company Short Pour —
Canadian brewer Molson is cutting off some problem drinkers — retired employees who get three cases of beer a month for free.
The company says eliminating the free suds will help save the company C$1 million a year in benefits costs and at least that much in health care costs for old dudes falling down drunk 12 months out of the year.
Retirees maintain they deserve the free beer for having had to drink Molson for their entire working career.
The company has said it is willing to offer free beer to those employees who are still working. This makes perfect sense if your logic is you’d rather have people operating heavy machinery a little buzzed than a bunch of senior citizens who are at home watching The O’Reilly Factor.
Although, come to think of it, anybody with a BAC over .08 who is watching the O’Reilly Factor is probably more dangerous.
