Lawyers get bitten from social media

David Meerman Scott has a good story about a legal firm that got bitten with its use of social media. Luckily, most of the legal teams I’ve had to deal with have been cautious when it comes to blogging, but happy to let it go ahead with some guidelines to protect the blogger and the company and I’ve never had to deal with a set of rules that would make blogging impossible. But I think that Nixon Peabody may fall into that category. Having commissioned an internal video to celebrate, it got leaked. This is not a surprise, given the number of ‘internal’ videos that are out there. It seems that the law firm have never had to consider the reality of the web so decided to sue to get people to take it down. No prizes for guessing what happened next – it pops up all over the place. When something is out there that is embarassing, then don’t try and shut it down, it’ll only get bigger.
