United States tennis player, Lindsey Davenport withdrew from the women’s singles competition today, citing a knee injury that she agravated playing at Wimbledon earlier this summer. She still hopes to compete in the doubles competition with her partner, Liezel Huber. That competition begins on Sunday.

Davenport, 32, won the Gold Medal in women’s singles at the 1996 Atlanta Games. She is a former #1-ranked player and has three Grand Slam singles victories to her credit. Her last win was at the Australian Open in 2005.
