Lions perfect

NFL Football at its best. NFL Football at its craziest.
My best friend RonB calls me up and excitedly exclaimed “They did it! They did it!”

You mean the Lions lost, right?

“Yeah, they did it. 0 – 16. They have the losingest Coach in Rod Marinelli, the losingest owner in William Clay Ford, and the losingest GM’s in Matt Millen and Mayhew.”

The worst record in NFL history, a dubious distinction that will permanently stain everyone involved.

The Lions lost to the Green Bay Packers 31-21 on Sunday, making them the first team to go winless through a 16-game season. The 1976 expansion Tampa Bay Buccaneers (0-14) were the last NFL team to complete a season without a victory.

“I’ve got to live with this,” center Dominic Raiola said. “I’ve been here eight years. This is on my resume.”

So why is RonB so happy? And what does the B stand for?

Ahh, RonB is happy because as Lions fans we no longer have to agonize over any one game, because we lose all games. It is not a downer to lose anymore, it is an upper. We did it!

RonB is happy because you can often not even watch the games on TV; he chose radio, because they are mostly blacked out at home.

RonB is happy because some kind of change must happen.

Oh, and the B? That shall remain a mystery.

    Well James,
I suppose you’re happy now. Because of your scathing commentary in Squib Kick, poor Rob Marinelli is now out of a job. The decision to fire Marinelli was made prior to Sunday’s loss to the Packers. My sources tell me that Mayhew actually read your recent postings and thought…’this hayseed blogger is probably right’….and immediately made the decision to fire Marinelli. It was too close to game time to make a formal annoucement, so he waited until after the game. Make no mistake about it though, win or lose against the Pack, Marinelli was gone. Good work James!!! OH! One more thing. Mayhew wants to know, if you have any suggestions on who should replace Marinelli.

Hayseed blogger? That is as close to a complement that any poster ever gave me. They were 16 games too late on firing Marinelli.
As for Mayhew getting the GM job, don’t you think there should have been a job search first?

They will need Knute Rockne or Vince Lombardi to coach this team if the talent level does not improve.
