Little Things to Help Your Health

So you don’t want to exercise regularly or track your diet yet.  What can you do in between now and then to burn a few calories here and save some calories there?  Below are a few easy changes you can introduce to your daily routine to help yourself.

  • Skip the restaurant beverages (soda, alcohol, etc.) and opt for water.  You can still eat whatever you want, but you’re going to save at least a few hundred calories and probably many grams of sugars.
  • Park far away.  Instead of spending 5 minutes looking for a close space, park for away and enjoy a brisk walk every time you shop.
  • Do sit-ups during commercials.  Pick your favorite show to watch and get in some ab work while you’re not watching.  You’ll never miss the idle time watching commercials.
  • Splurge on entertainment or shopping, not food.  Instead of eating up your dollars on extras like coffee, ice cream, and other treats, buy yourself a new shirt or songs for your iPod.
  • Substitute low or no fat products in your cooking or meals.  For example, try skim milk in your cereal over 2% or whole fat.
