Liz Nails It!

On Successful and Outstanding Bloggers (successful-blog.com for those of you who type URLs) Liz writes something deep and meaningful on social networking:

We have to know each other for the “friend” part to work or network like it’s supposed to.

Just adding people doesn’t make them friends. Handing your business card to someone does not make them want to help you. There has to be a human aspect – a connection – for the rest to fall into place.

So you may have a lot of business cards, but how many of those cards are from someone that knows you. Not all your deep, dark secrets – but someone that will recognize your name (or your company name) if you call them?

  1. Liz Strauss says:

Wow! Thanks for the vote of confidence. I’m so with you. “Friends” who wouldn’t know my name aren’t friends at all.

  2. Thank you. While I may be painfully socially awkward, I do know how to say hello…and take it from there.

Children growing up without basic social skills (and adults who have heard “stranger: danger” since they were young) have trouble making the connections and to know what a good connection is when they have it.

There is such a delicate balance between pushing a little instead of standing still and pushing too hard and being too friendly.

You nail it by just being yourself. That’s why I love your blog so much!
