London 2012 Celebrates
As part of the Olympics handover ceremony from Beijing to London, there’s going to be a huge party in the Mall and in multiple sites around the UK. The team behind the party are busy collecting pictures and videos from everyone to show on the night, celebration videos.
I first saw this when I got a comment on one of my pictures from the 2005 announcement.
They’ve got a group on Flickr, looking for photos, both of the various events they’ve had and more general celebratory images. They’re also calling for more videos, in their channel over on YouTube
The London Olympics have been touted as the people’s games, and they’re starting off with a lot of involvement. I wonder if they know yet what they could do in 4 years time, given the changing technology. YouTube had only just started when the bid win was announced…so how could we all get involved in 4 years time?

We spent the afternoon at the free concert in the Mall and it was brilliant – really great atmosphere, diverse mix of people but all there to celebrate. Overheard a lot of people talking about the logo, which when it was launched was pretty much universally hated, and the general consensus seemed to be that when you put a union jack into the logo it really wasn’t actually that bad!
Totally agree that London 2012 will be the world’s first digital games. The digital possibilities for building ongoing relationships between the UK and 2012 hopefuls are huge!
