According to Kaspersky Labs, a new virus code has been released by hackers that can attack both Windows and Linux machines.
“Security researchers worry that the malicious code may be part of a disturbing new trend of viruses that could infect both Linux and Windows PCs.”
Kaspersky Labs has given the virus the double name Virus.Linux.Bi.a/ Virus.Win32.Bi.a and it was first reported last Friday.
The virus is written in assembler language and appears to have no specific purpose other than to be a “proof of concept code.” This is a code that is written with the sole purpose of proving that a cross-platform virus can be written.
It is becoming more necessary for Mac, Linux and Unix machines to be protected. If you are running one of these OS’s I recommend that you get a good antivirus solution as soon as possible.

Ahhhh Assembler. The good old equalizer.
The anti-virus for Linux that comes to mind are AVG and KlamAV. I think there are a couple more, though.
There are others. I have used Bit Defender on a Linux box I used to have. Its only flaw was that it was a command line scanner and did not have real-time protection.
