Looking Ahead: Australian Open

I know the Davis Cup is just around the sharp bend ahead. Believe me, it will get its due attention.

But for a brief moment, I’d like to glance ahead and look at the Australian Open and a few fun little facts about the event Down Under.

- Rod Laver played most of the 1961 Australian Open with a sprained wrist tightly bandaged and splinted with broken up matchboxes.

- The Australian Open is Australia’s highest-selling sporting publication. (What, it’s not netball, mate?)

- Lleyton Hewitt became the youngest man ever to qualify for the Australian Open in 1997 at the age of 15.

There are more.  But this website also isn’t the most stellar…considering it had the same fact on there twice. Brilliant. Bloody brilliant.

Feel free to comment away with your fun, random Aussie Open facts, corrections or bizarro moments.
