Rosetta Stone, the company that offers interactive solutions for people who want to learn a new language, has decided to sue Google. The lawsuit, which was filed in the state of Virginia, claims that Google is infringing on their trademarks.
The trademark infringing is claimed to be taking place on Google Adwords. According to Rosetta Stone, Google altered their advertising policy and now doesn’t protect trademarks. As a result, Rosetta Stone contends that software piracy has been made easier to accomplish.
Said Michael Wu of Rosetta Stone: “Google’s search engine is helping third parties mislead consumers and misappropriate Rosetta Stone trademarks by using them as ‘keyword’ triggers for paid advertisements and by using them within the text or title of paid advertisements. Google and its advertisers benefit financially from and trade off the goodwill and reputation of Rosetta Stone without incurring the substantial expense that Rosetta Stone has incurred in building up its popularity, name recognition, and brand loyalty.”
Rosetta Stone reportedly wants the judge to grand immediate relief to stop Google from infringing on their trademarks.
