I’m not sure how I feel about this but, apparently, there is a MacGyver film in the works. To be very honest, I’m not sure how the popular television series will translate on the big screen and this is one of those times where I’m thinking they should just let a good thing rest in peace.

In case you never saw it, the original show starred Richard Dean Anderson (and his outrageous mullet) as a quick-thinking secret agent for the Phoenix Foundation. Despite ending up in impossible situations in almost every episode, the man managed to find a way out of danger with seconds to spare.
I think a lot of the charm was that MacGyver’s inventions seemed plausible, if not cheesy, and I have a feeling that the new film would include high-tech devices and computer-generated scenes that will make it all so unrealistic. New Line Cinema’s Richard Brener said: “we think we’re a stick of chewing gum, a paper clip and an A-list writer away from a global franchise.” Ugh, I’m already irritated.
In case you’re having a hard time remembering the show, here’s the intro:
I also think that audiences might be prone to giggling if they’ve ever seen the Saturday Night Live parody “MacGruber.” The skit, starring Will Forte, is so popular that it was featured in a Super Bowl commercial for Pepsi.
I could go on and on but I really don’t want to see another classic 80s show resurrected only to fall apart for a second time (like Knight Rider). What do you think? Would you go see a MacGyver movie?

Definitely, I watched every episode with the entire family when I was a kid. It was our saturday blockbuster show. My father is an engineer and he’d explain the science behind all quickie inventions of MacGyver which thrilled me. I am a big science fan myself. I can’t wait to see this movie.
