Dear Anne,
I have always been interested in writing greeting cards as a side job, I have written poetry all of my life and am very good at expressing emotions. I have wanted to do this for years. Can you offer me any assistance?
Thank you in advance for any help you can offer,
AB
Hi AB,
Although I’ve known about the greeting card opportunity for freelance writers for what now seems forever, I’ve never even tried it. Which hasn’t kept me from writing an article about it! I think Make Money Writing Greeting Cards is accurate and even useful.
If I woke up tomorrow and wanted to make some money writing greeting cards I’d buy one or two of the books on the subject – there are a ton – then follow the instructions. I also know that I find and post ads for Blue Mountain cards, so I might start there if I thought I could meet their requirements.
Good luck, and if you try this let us know how it works, or doesn’t.

AB,
About a month ago I sent about 10 poems to Blue Mountain Arts, just to see how it might go. Like you, I’ve been writing poetry forever, so I figured surely I’d have “something” they’d like. Out of 10 poems, 3 made it to the next step, which is market research. They told me I’d hear the results of that sometime in the next 24 months. I’m still waiting, but I’m hopeful.
The greeting card industry is highly competitive, but it pays quite well. Because of the length of time of the process, it isn’t something you can really bank on for paying next month’s rent; however, if you’ve got a bunch of extra poems just lying around collecting dust, it’s certainly worth it to send them in.
PS: I cleaned mine up and slightly revamped them to make them sound perfect for card copy.
Diana, thanks for the insights… by all means keep us posted.
