Managing My OneCare Circle

I’ve come across an dilemma in my use of Windows Live OneCare. You see, I’ve been recommending and installing this software on lots of people’s machines. Mainly family members and some client accounts. Then of course there are the three computers in my house that have it installed. It would be four but it won’t install on my Windows 2000 machine in my daughter’s room.

With the latest update to the software that lets you manage a circle of computer, I’ve got my computer showing up in some circles for clients that I don’t want it to show up in. I’m sure it’s because each license is associated with my Windows Live ID. I’ve got to think there’s a way to manage this better.

If I stop and think about it I’ve got 8 machines currently associated with my account and I’m probably going to have another 4 machines after this weekend. My Windows Live account should allow me to setup related “Circles” for management. Of course it would also be nice if I could then associate more than three computers into a circle, because after all, a circle of three is more like a pyramid right?

I’ve been reading through the Windows Live OneCare Forums to see if anyone’s got any ideas or if maybe someone from Microsoft has responded.

  1. Kevin says:

Do you actually have 8 pc’s in a single circle?

  2. Jason Bean says:

Yep, I did. Not anymore because they would each display the alerts for ever other computer when the individual computer may have been fine. Not so good for clients to feel like something is wrong with their computer when there’s not.
