Now how cool would a New York Giants and Indianapolis Colts Super Bowl with brother against brother be?

Now that would be Super!

Peyton is working hard to get the Colts back to the Super Bowl. There is that one little obstacle called Tom Brady and the New England Patriots. Still Peyton works on. He is busy breaking down each pass that he threw last year. Yes, the best can get better.

But getting back to that Peyton vs. Eli thing.

When asked about a potential Manning Super Bowl duel, Peyton says in that easy, Louisiana drawl of his, “That’s certainly the plan.”

Eli told a College Hall of Fame luncheon crowd recently that it would be cool to keep the Lombardi Trophy in the family.

And what better way to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Baltimore Colts-New York Giants 1958 NFL championship game than with a Colts-Giants Super Bowl with the brothers vying for the crown?

“That’s what’s been talked about here,” Colts coach Tony Dungy says.

“When you think about the 2008 Super Bowl, if a Colts-Giants meeting did happen with the Mannings playing quarterback and how big that would be … for selfish reasons, we’d like to do our part to make it happen.”

You know, with Brett Favre and Steve McNair retiring, old man Peyton at 32 is suddenly the elder statesman of the league. If Peyton keeps playing at the same level, then some of the NFL records that Brett holds may belong to Peyton Manning.

But getting back to that Tom Brady thing.

Sure, Patriots signal caller Tom Brady has won more Super Bowl titles with three to Manning’s one.

But Manning, the two-time league MVP, Super Bowl XLI MVP and ubiquitous television pitchman, has emerged as one of the most prominent faces of the game with Favre seemingly gone for good.

“Peyton and Tom Brady have risen to that stature,” Dungy says. “There has been a changing of the guard. It tells you how fleeting this game is. … A little while ago, we were talking about Dan Marino and John Elway. Now Favre and McNair are gone.

“When you talk about the faces of the game, there’s Peyton and Tom and you could throw LaDainian Tomlinson in there as well. … They’ve won. They’ve done it well, and they’ve been part of great organizations.”

Manning ranks fourth all-time with 306 touchdown passes and ninth with 41,626 passing yards; both figures are tops among active quarterbacks. “I do take a lot of pride in going into my 11th year,” he says. “I always admire guys that have played as long as McNair did or Favre did or Marino did. … It’s not an easy position to have longevity in.”

The Colts are ready and so is Peyton! Are you listening, Eli?
