Mario and Luigi Were Sopranos

Sometimes I think that I have found something so intrinsically strange that no strange thing that I find after that will be able to unseat it from the Throne of Strangeness. But something always comes along that makes my brain hurt in a new and usually unpleasant way.

Nintendo’s original poster boys, Mario and Luigi, have been involved in a lot of very odd things over the years, some produced through official channels, and some resulting from 80’s children who spent far too much time plopped in front of Super Mario, trying to warp their way to an all-time low completion time. I think this latest discovery falls into the second category.

Now, complete with downloadable soundtrack and a complete trailer, I give to you: The Super Mario Brothers Opera. Following on the heels of Super Mario Brothers: The Musical, this lyrical treat tracks Mario from his cozy plumbing job in Brooklyn, to his encounters with the fantasy world he discovers one day on the job. All of the old favourite characters are there, from Princess Peach, to Bowser, to the happy little Mushrooms, and the cranky Koopas.
