NFL Football at its best. NFL Football at its craziest.
Marquise Hill dead at 24
Marquise Hill was 24 years old. That is just way too young.
No, Hill was not a starter for the Patriots, but that does not matter. He was a part of the team and a fine young man. Marquise was a giant of a man standing 6′ 6″ tall and weighing 300 pounds, but that does not matter either.
It is just too young to be 24 and lose your life.
Bill Belichick made a statement.
“We have suffered a stunning and tragic loss,” Patriots coach Bill Belichick said in a written statement Monday evening. “Marquise will be remembered as a thoughtful and caring young man who established himself as one of the year-round daily fixtures of our team. I send my deepest condolences to the Hill family.” source
Marquise had been a pretty darn good player in college and was just finding himself at the pro level.
Hill played on LSU’s national championship team and was a second-round draft pick by New England in 2004. Hill had yet to start for the Patriots, playing in 13 games in his NFL career. source
Hill and a female companion were jet skiing in Lake Pontchartrain and fell off into a strong current.
The woman, whose identity was not available Monday, was rescued and sent to Tulane Medical Center where she told them Hill had tried to keep her calm as the two were drifting away from each other.
Neither Hill nor the woman wore a life preserver, Atkeson said.
A lot will be made of the fact that neither one of them wore a life jacket and a lot should be made of it. Anyone that Jet Skis knows that they should be wearing a life jacket, but still that does not matter now.
The only thing that matters is that Marquise Hill will not be with his friends, family, or teammates. Marquise was 24 and that is too young of an age to die. That is the only thing that matters.
Your intrepid author’s prayers go to his family and friends.
NFL Football Fan Question Why is it hard to lose someone so young?
