Mars Opposition-Fest 2007

For some reason, my sidebar no longer shows the page I had dedicated to the Mars Opposition. Since we’re getting pretty close, I thought I’d put this up again:

As you can see, we’re catching up to Mars. Where I live, Mars is rising at about 7pm and offers some real nice views because of its large apparent size in my eyepiece.

We’ll finally arrive at opposition on December 18th, that’ll be the closest we get to it for a while.

I watched Mars follow the Moon across the sky all night on the 23rd of December, it was awsome. I also watched it on the 24th of December, not as awsome but really cool. Tonight it is not as close to the Moon as it was last night but with a pair of binoculars you can really see the Red color.
