Mars Opposition is Tonight

Get out your scopes, binoculars or anything with a lens in it and take it outside tonight for one of the best views of Mars you’re going to get for a while.

Right now, we are very close to Mars in our orbit:

So get out there if it’s clear and check it out. Right now, Mars is low in the eastern sky just after sunset. Here’s a view from Boulder at about 7pm (click on it to see a bigger one):

More precisely, we will be at our closest distance to Mars at 6:45 EST. Of course, it’s still cloudy in Illinois, I haven’t seen a star in almost two weeks…

Have fun!
