NFL Football at its best. NFL Football at its craziest.
Yep, the smartest organization will franchise tag Matt Cassel. This way he cannot leave for Free Agency and if Tom Brady is not ready to go, then Matt Cassel will take over. If Tom is ready then the New England Patriots can trade him for another great player.
How do they do it?
Following up on a report in the National Football Post, ESPN reported yesterday that the Pats will apply the tag to Cassel for a little more than $14 million. Franchising Cassel will give the Patriots some protection in the event starting quarterback Tom Brady [stats] is not ready to go because of knee surgery.
We all laughed when Matt took over for Tom Brady, but Matt threw for 14 touchdowns in his last 7 games. The Pats only lost 5 games.
