Mike is sitting it out

In his first year in the NFL, Matt Leinart has established himself as a rising star and a celebrity. Emphasis on the celebrity part, still a lot of learning to do on the rising star part.

Matt happens to think Mike Williams of the Detroit Lions is a great receiver.

Mike who, you say? Well, you can be forgiven for forgetting about Mike Williams. Maybe this will boost your memory… Maurice Clarett, college players trying to leave early, being denied, having to sit out… Is this helping?

Mike has been acting as a stand in safety for the scout team. He has amassed huge fines for being late to meetings and being over weight.

The real problem is his size and talent. He was so big as a receiver in college and so talented that he never felt the need to really try. Yeah, he is coasting on talent.

Well, guess what, there are very few that can coast on talent in the NFL, maybe no one, and certainly not Mike Williams.

Matt has learned this lesson and he hopes that Mike Williams learns it too. The way the Lions are treating him, he will have to apply any lessons learned for a new team. Coach Rod Marinelli will not tolerate anyone that does not love to play and that includes going all out at all times.
