Matt Stafford can do the job

NFL Football at its best. NFL Football at its craziest.
Those of you that screamed for the Lions to draft a tackle, where are you now? If you watched even part of the game against the Saints, then you could see that Matt Stafford is going to be a great quarterback.
Will the Lions win a lot of games this year?
Well, the big surprise is that their offense is not going to be the biggest problem, rookie quarterback notwithstanding. The defense is so porous it is unbelievable. True, it was Drew Brees and he was on his game, but the receivers were so wide open at times that it was ridiculous. Coach Schwartz has to be very unhappy about the way the defense played.

Matt survives the Saints game
On the other hand, this is not last year’s Lions and they have a lot of new personnel and appear to have improved in many areas. Maybe they just don’t have their act together yet, who knows?
Back to the offensive side of the ball, it was amazing how the Saints could cut off the running attack and double Calvin Johnson and thus render the offense impotent at times. Something has to be done about that and will be.
Matt was 16 for 37 for 205 yards and 3 interceptions which for the rookie wasn’t too bad considering the Lions were playing from way behind the whole game. Matt’s debut was more than the stats or the score, it included how he handled himself, some of the sharp throws he made, how well he stood up to pressure. All in all he did well.
All in all it was a great debut for Matt Stafford, except that he ran into the little juggarnaught called Drew Brees!
