Maurice Jones-Drew, the starting running back for the Jacksonville Jaguars, has returned to practice. After getting bruising his leg in the team’s final preseason contest, Jones-Drew’s availability in Week 1 wasn’t certain. However, now it appears like he’ll play after he was able to get back on the practice field.
Many NFL experts are expecting big things from Jones-Drew this season. After playing behind Fred Taylor in his first three seasons, Jones-Drew has the starting job all to himself. As a result, he is likely to see many more touches in 2009.
Last year, the 5-foot-7 running back out of UCLA had 824 rushing yards, 565 receiving yards and a total of 14 touchdowns. If he gets a lot of carries this year, Jones-Drew has a chance to lead running backs in touchdowns.
In Week 1, the Jaguars travel to Indianapolis to take on the Colts. They’ll need Jones-Drew at full strength to begin their season with a victory.
