Awhile back I had the opportunity to receive and review the book “Maximum Strength”‘Get your strongest body in 16 weeks’.
Maximum Strength is a guide to becoming leaner and stronger. Both of which it really helps to be at least close to before taking on this training regiment. As I said in my introduction to the book awhile back. If you’re overweight and/or not in good physical shape then it will take you much longer than 16 weeks to get lean and strong. Can this book help even if those are the provisions of you physical condition? Absolutely! Maximum Strength has a lot of great information in it to include dieting guides (when I say dieting guide I actually mean a guide to your diet to maintain a good level of health and fitness), Supplements To Consider, Supplements to avoid, nutritional information, warm-ups, physical strength assessment, exercise demonstrations and plenty of tips throughout the book.
A simple and easy to read book, Maximum Strength shows you how to prepare, perform exercises and grow in a 4 phase cycle. Eating tips, training schedules, rep recommendations…it’s all here for you. We all know finding time and money to go to the gym is tough. If you have the means at home to build your own small personal gym, sometimes this is more efficient, even if it is in your garage with an affordable weight bench and accessories. Unfortunately not all the exercises in this book can be performed on a small budget in a home gym, so you may have to improvise. However the many different types of exercises in this book are well executed by Eric Cressey and explained thoroughly emphasizing on correct execution of the exercise, how not to do it and the targeted muscles involved.
Getting strong and lean takes a lot more than just lifting weights and it is all explained in Maximum Strength. You have all your life to procrastinate…or you have 16 weeks to get in the best shape of your life.
As always, it’s best to consult your physician before starting any fitness program. A good physical can’t hurt, especially if you have not had one in a long time.
Maximum Strength is written by Eric Cressey and Matt Fitzgerald, published by Da Capo Press and can be purchased for $18.95 at just about any book store near you.
Coming soon a review of: Your Body, Your Responsibility by Debra M. Corbo and Douglas J. Splittgerber
