McCoy will Likely be Back: Smart or Not?

320 Today, Colt McCoy told Sporting News that he’s coming back next season for his senior year. Right now, the junior Texas quarterback is the most likely candidate for the Heisman – he completed over 90% of his passes against #11 Missouri, and so far has only three interceptions this year – but 1,894 passing yards for 19 touchdowns. He’s compared himself to Tony Romo, and there are few people arguing at this point.

I’m always a fan of players staying in college to get their degrees, but playing devil’s advocate, is this choice best for his career? RigSPORT NCAA FOOTBALLht now, it is probable that at least two quarterbacks will be taken in the top ten. Maybe he just doesn’t want to play for the lions?

Listen, right now, McCoy is on the top of his game. Many question whether he can come back and have another great year, and of course there is always the fear of injury. Overall, though, I think he’ll only mature with another year at Texas. The conference is good enough for him to show off his skills and improve, and unless he (knock on wood) gets injured, I think this is a smart choice.

What do you think?

  1. Jason says:

He might as well head for the pros. With the numbers he’s putting up right now I’d say he’s about as good as he’s going to get at the college level. Whether or not he can handle the pros is impossible to say, but no sense in wasting what could be another year as a professional QB is he’s cut out for the big leagues.

I like the move. He won’t be a good NFL QB.

  3. If you can get the money you gotta go. No reason risking an injury. Of course, if he’s gonna be a mid rounder he might as well stay and try to get better.
