McDonald’s Creates Ad in Nebraska Cornfield Maze

mcdonalds mccafe How do you convince people from middle-America to visit their local McDonald’s for a latte?  Build a giant cornfield maze in Nebraska!

I’m not kidding.  Follow the link to see the McDonald’s cornfield maze ad.

This campaign is meant to create a buzz about McDonald’s new McCafe brand (the copy says, “Taste what the buzz is about”).  According to AdFreak, each person who makes it through the 42.6 acre maze will receive a coupon for a free latte, mocha or cappuccino specialty coffee from McDonald’s.

What do you think?  A brilliant way to speak to middle America or a buzz generator that will die out faster than the time it took to build the maze?

  1. Scott says:

Considering the precarious nature of the economy; aren’t luxury items like your morning Latte’ one of the first things to be sacrificed? I always thought that was true and based on troubles facing Starbucks, I’m surprised that McDonald’s is pushing a “boutique” facade. I could understand if they were still trying to win over some of the Starbucks crowd, but that pool of customers appears to be dwindling.

That said, I would prefer to not give up my Dunkin’ Donuts coffee, but I buy the coffee from them and make it myself as a cost/time saving measure.
