Mechafilia = fewer emissions? Maybe??
BIG LOVE to my friend, Shanna, for posting about this (via her private blog).
Now, I joke about having car lust, but apparently there are folks who take that concept to a whole other level.
“There have been certain cars that attracted me and I would wait until night time, creep up to them and just hug and kiss them.” [Says Edward Smith.]
This really kind of pissed me off. I know they’re inanimate objects, but creeping up to hug and kiss them? His mind is somewhere that I won’t be going.
Smith is among several “mechafiliacs” featured in a new documentary, My Car is My Lover. There are some clips up on YouTube, if you’re really interested in the ins-and-outs of the whole thing, as well as a number of blogs and books available on the subject. Queen even sang a song about it way back when, so I suppose it’s nothing new.
The good side to this story is that for the men (and women) with special relationships with their cars, regular maintenance is usually part of the process. And what does regular maintenance lead to? That’s right, kids! Fewer emissions, and better gas mileage. (I hope.)
* Above license plate doesn’t belong to mechafiliac, but it sure gives you reason to pause before getting a plate like this!
