Meet Your 2008 Heisman Finalists

There aren’t any huge surprises here. What is unusual is that this is the first time since 2001 when all of the finalists were quarterbacks. While there are some great receivers, running backs, etc, no one stood out this year as best. So here’s the stats for the finalists. Who would you vote for? Vote on the sidebar!
Tim Tebow, Florida

5th in the nation in passing (176.7 rating)

28 touchdown passes, 12 running touchdowns

Florida is 12-1 and playing in the National Championship game. They’re the reigning SEC champion.
Sam Bradford, Oklahoma

The nation leader in passing (186.3 rating)

48 touchdown passes (the most in the nation)

Oklahoma has scored over 700 point and became the first college team in 89 years to reach 60+ points in 5 consecutive games. They are also playing for the title.
Colt McCoy, Texas

Has a record-breaking 77.6 completion percentage

The team’s leading rusher with 576 years and 10 touchdowns

Texas finished 11-1, and actually beat Oklahoma, but are playing in one of the other BCS bowls.
My Thoughts:
First, let’s talk about the fact that Graham Harrell (Texas Tech) was not invited. I know that Tebow, Bradford, and McCoy are all really strong candidates, but Harrell deserved to be there too, just like Hawaii’s quartback deserved to be there last year, even though everyone knew he was a longshot. Harrell has throw 41 touchdown passes and is the nation’s leader in passing yards (4,747 yards).
Looking at the three candidates, I think that Tebow has a ton of talent. Best player in college football, though? He might go as the first quarterback in the draft, but how can you argue that he’s better than two quarterbacks that are setting NCAA records for the season and for all-time?
My pick for Heisman is Bradford, and for me it is a tough, tough, tough decision between him and McCoy. Tebow is super talented, but last season was his shining year, not this season.
