Metallica Inducted to Rock and Roll Hall of Fame

Metallica was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum last week (April 4, 2009) and I can’t think of a current band that deserves it more.

For the first time, the event was open to the public (about 5,000 tickets were made available and sold) which is amazing.  Drummer, Lars Ulrich, made sure to recognize the band’s fans and said “This is all about all of you people up in the balcony. Remember that!”

They performed some of their biggest hits but I had to seek out and find “Enter Sandman” on YouTube.  Enjoy:

The induction ceremony took place in Cleveland, Ohio  for the first time since 1997 but it’s being reported that they expect the event to return to the city every three years from now on.  “I think it’s nice for Cleveland,” said hip-hop music label and fashion entrepreneur Russell Simmons. “They fought to get it here. They deserve it. It’s good for the people of Cleveland. It should be here every year.”

  1. They sounded really good, but man, it was hard to stay up as late as it ran. Bobby Womack sounded really good too and Paul Schaffer never seizes to amaze me. Eminem was starting to aggravate me with his “Two turn-tables and a microphone” line every two minutes. I was kind of disappointed that Run DMC didn’t perform, either that or I missed it but I waited.

Scott, I couldn’t even watch it. We could find it on any stations available to us stinky Canadians. :(

I’ve heard people complaining about the way Run DMC were handled in general. I’m thinking they were pretty much overshadowed by Metallica. It’s too bad.

  3. Wtf? Isn’t Fuse a Canadian channel, or was at one time?

You know what, Scott? You are right which makes this even more effed up than I realized. Ugh.

Even worse – we have no live broadcast of new year’s countdowns in our time zone. Isn’t that nice? :)
