Olympics Day 8 - Swimming

Michael Phelps has earned his 7th gold medal at the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games.  Yes, that is seven more than all of Team Canada combined… sigh.

Accomplished the feat by beating Milorad Cavic of Serbia in the 100-metre butterfly by a hundredth of a second, with a time of 50.58 seconds, which is an Olympic record.  I was worried because in the qualifiers, Cavic actually beat Phelps so I knew it was going to be an extremely tight race!

At just 23 years of age, Phelps has tied Mark Spitz’s seven gold medals from the 1972 Munich Games.  He’ll be back in the pool on Sunday to swim in his final event, the 4×100 medley relay.
