I honestly watched a documentary about this sort of thing recently on the Discovery Channel but it was about obese persons and not Olympic athletes! Apparently, swimming superstar, Michael Phelps, ingests a whopping 12,000 calories a day! What does that mean (and more importantly, what does he eat?!?!?).
For starters, he tries to eat about 4,000 calories at every meal and starts his day by eating three fried-egg sandwiches topped with cheese, lettuce, tomatoes, fried onions and mayonnaise. WOW! That was NOT what I was expecting! But wait – there’s more! He chases that with “two cups of coffee, a five-egg omelet, a bowl of grits, three slices of French toast topped with powdered sugar and three chocolate-chip pancakes.” Are you kidding me?! That was breakfast, lol…
Then, in the middle of the day, Michael takes a break from swimming and noshes on enriched pasta, two large ham and cheese sandwiches (with mayo, of course) washes it down with about 1,000 calories worth of energy drinks.
At dinnertime, he eats a pound of pasta and an entire pizza and has yet another 1000 calories worth of energy drinks.
Well, if it’s good enough for Michael… just kidding! This is an example of a diet that goes along with high levels of physical exertion. Don’t try this at home, kids :)
