Microsoft now has a stand alone blogging application available for download. Windows Live Writer is now available and performs the same tasks as other 3rd party blogging application like Qumana, Blogdesk, etc. Contrary to what you may think, you don’t have to use it with Windows Live Spaces, but it obviously works there. It does currently work with: Blogger, LiveJournal, TypePad, WordPress and more.
Some specific features:
- WYSIWYG Editing
- Photo Publishing
- Map Publishing
- Writer SDK
Duncan Riley has downloaded it and has a screen shot available.
Duncan has updated us to let us know there’s no support right now in the product for categories or Technorati tags. This is an initial release, but these are two areas that they need to update quick.
I’m going to download it now and hopefully have time to install and grab some screen shots for everyone later.
Visit the Windows Live Writer team blog for now if you’d like some more information.
