Microsoft Does An About Face on IE8 Decision

ie-backflip Have you heard the news? This new, friendlier Microsoft image seems to be really gaining ground. Now they’ve decided that IE8 will be more conformist to actual web standards. Awhile back I wrote about their initial idea to require developers to put in a tag to not use the default rendering for IE7 in IE8.

Now they’ve decided the default mode will be the most standard compliant option.

“We’ve decided that IE8 will, by default, interpret web content in the most standards compliant way it can. This decision is a change from what we’ve posted previously. Microsoft recently published a set of Interoperability Principles. Thinking about IE8’s behavior with these principles in mind, interpreting web content in the most standards compliant way possible is a better thing to do.”

How about that? Another example of more open standards being pushed and promoted by Microsoft.
