Microsoft getting friendly with small businesses

If you own a small business or startup with less than 50 staff, Microsoft seems to be giving you a break on your software needs.

Called Open Value Subscription program, it costs about a third of the license-only expense for the current licensing program open to small business.

Businesses will be able to sign up for the Open Value Subscription program beginning in March. Microsoft products available through the program include Microsoft Office Small Business, Office Professional +, Windows Vista Business Upgrade, Small Business Server Client Access License (CAL), Core CAL, Desktop Professional Suite, and Small Business Desktop Suite.

This is a clever marketing campaign from Microsoft. Clearly, they’re hoping to get users accustomed to their products in hopes they’ll buy the paid version as soon as their organizations’ head counts go over 50. I’m sure there’s a Vista upsell opportunity down the road as well. But this might be a great way for some small businesses to save some money and get helpful business tools as well.

  2. It’s better than a kick in the pant’s I suppose. We realy do have it pretty good. The value that these programs offer… What do you suppose they save in hours and money?
