Microsoft Live One Care Failed Tests

February 8, 2007 by Milo Riano

Microsoft Live OneCare 1.5, McAfee VirusScan Enterprise version 8.1i, G DATA AntiVirusKit 2007 v17.0.6353, and Norman VirusControl v5.90 all failed to protect Windows Vista according to the testing results conducted by Virus Bulletin and a team of security researchers.

The tests was running 15 antivirus softwares against a Windows Vista computer infected with a set of viruses where F-Secure, Kaspersky, Sophos and Symantec, and seven others were able to detect all virus infections.

Joe Telafici who is the vice-president of McAfee Avert Labs was quick on the defense by saying Virus Bulletin did not use their latest software update.

Microsoft on the other hand was grateful that these tests allowed them to strengthen their products and argued that they were happy keeping the vulnerabilities at a minimum and eliminating them through their Security Development Lifecycle process.

The failure of Live Once Care would not affect the sales and impression of Windows Vista and Microsoft’s commitment to improving their products would add to their popularity and customer satisfaction. Virus Bulleting and vendors like these help strengthen Microsoft’s products without much expense to the software giant’s side.
