Microsoft: No HD-DVD Inside the Box

While those who have already bought the HD-DVD add-on for the Xbox 360 may be glad that they haven’t spent that $200 for nothing (not that many would say that), those who are waiting for an all-in-one box may be in for a sad night. Microsoft has basically denied any beliefs that they are planning on integrating the HD-DVD drive into the Xbox. “Microsoft knew if we put in an HD DVD drive that we would have to raise costs and disenfranchise our customers (that are primarily gamers) as the unit would become too expensive,” said Kevin Collins, Microsoft director of “HD DVD evangelism.” They also said that they have “over 100 people working on HD DVD interactivity and we believe that HD DVD is next-generation optical format.” Hmm… Makes perfect sense especially when you are backing it.
