Just last week, I published a post on Brandcurve about the new Microsoft commercials featuring Jerry Seinfeld and Bill Gates saying I didn’t think the messages in the ad I posted were helpful to Microsoft. Looks like I’m not the only one who felt that way because this week, Microsoft canned the ads.
According to Microsoft (who reportedly paid Jerry Seinfeld $10 million for the commercial), their plan was always to drop the ads (and Seinfeld) and a top secret “phase two” of the campaign (without Seinfeld) will launch at any moment. As if we’re holding our breath – not.
Let’s put it this way. Microsoft missed the boat on this one. At least they realized it and decided to cut their losses and move on instead of moving forward in denial.
What do you think?
If you missed the commercial I posted last week, check it out here. And in case that commercial isn’t enough, here’s another:

They got scared at the mixed reaction to the ads and caned them. I for one, loved them.
