Microsoft System Center Ad Confusion

Matt over at 37signals doesn’t like this Microsoft ad. He says:

Saw this ad in the latest issue of Information Week. Only Microsoft could possibly see a big panel of buttons and think “this must be what our customers want”. I just had to send it in to you guys.

That’s not even close to the first impression I got about the ad. I quickly realized it was a picture of a guy in an elevator and there are loads of floors to choose from. It’s a “BIG” building, which could then easily be translated to being a “BIG” company.

After reading a recent post from Mark Cuban on him switching to a Mac, the realization came to me and it explains why I like Microsoft for the most part.

Microsoft isn’t just for people who like a lot of buttons, but a lot of options. You know, widespread options, like two mouse buttons.

What do you think about the ad?

My reaction was something along the lines of… “That looks complicated. I guess Microsoft can simplify it?”
