Microsoft Throws Down the Gauntlet at Google

“What we’re saying is that in six months’ time we’ll be more relevant in the U.S. market place than Google,” said Neil Holloway, Microsoft president for Europe, Middle East and Africa.
Pretty strong words! I’m definitely interested in seeing what they’ve got up their sleeve to knock Google off their perch. Microsoft’s efforts will focus on providing more than a list of URL’s to try out after searching. They desire to provide users with the information that requires more digging into the page itself. I’m not sure if this means their search algorithms will change how they’re processed, or if the search page will return subsets of information instead of a list of URL’s. Maybe it’s a combination of both.
The article states that Microsoft isn’t interested in integrated their new search functionality into the Windows Vista operating system. My guess is the concern over “bundling” items again with the OS. The bundling that irritates me more recently is being forced to install QuickTime anytime I upgrade iTunes, or vice-versa.
