Mikki Moore Signs with the Warriors

September 1, 2009 by Stephen Kersey

After splitting last season with the Sacramento Kings and the Boston Celtics, Mikki Moore has moved on to another team — the Golden State Warriors. Moore’s deal with the Warriors is reported worth $1.3 million over one season.

The 7-footer who played his college basketball at Nebraska gives the Warriors a player who not only has size but who is also mobile. Moore’s outside shooting is above average for a bigman, which fits in well with Golden State’s system.

Last season, the 33-year-old averaged 3.5 points with the Kings before being released. With the Celtics, he averaged 4.8 points and 4.4 rebounds in 26 regular season games. However, once the playoffs rolled around, Moore wasn’t getting much playing time.

Moore is unlikely to start on the Warriors but he’ll be able to backup at both power forward and center. Since Don Nelson likes to use small ball, he’ll likely often find himself surrounded by four smaller players on the court.
