MindMeister is great for mindmapping
This morning I read on Mashable that there’s a new mindmap web app in private beta called MindMeister. I was lucky enough to get an invite and I’ve been messing around with it.
So far I really, really like it. The controls for creating new nodes are very intuitive (tab to create a new child, enter to create a new node). The way you can color fonts and add icons is, IMHO, even easier than my copy of MindManager for the Mac. You can export maps to .gif format or Rich Text Format. Coolest of all is the ability to share maps and do collaborative edits in realtime with version history.
The app has two levels pricing: basic which is free and a premium version. The free version includes the ability to share maps with others, but collaborative editing and the export options are limited to the premium version which runs $50/year. Not a bad price point if you can’t quite bring yourself to shell out the several hundred dollars for a license on a commercial app. Of course there are other free standalone mindmap apps, notably FreeMind, if you’re really looking to save money.
FYI, I also checked out Gliffy a while ago and it’s cool, but it’s definitely not a dedicated mindmap tool. More like a web app of Visio.
One last note: since I’m in on the beta, it looks like I’ve got 20 accounts to give away. If you’re a mindmap freak like me and you want to try out MindMeister, drop a note in the comments (be sure to put your real email addy or you’ll be skunked). First 20 to say “hit me” will get some love. Happy Friday!

I would love to give it a try.
Thanks
I’d take an invite. Thanks!
I’d appreciate an invite to tryout MindMeister. Thanks.
I’d love an invite!
Hit Me!
It looks like it could be a good tool.
I’m just getting into mindmapping with the book ‘Idea Mapping’ by Jamie Nast. I found the book on sale at Amazon and decided to give it a whirl.
It should be an interesting exercise in transitioning from outline based note taking/organizing to a graphical/visual format.
Thanks
I’d like to try it! Please!
This program sounds cool. Thanks for the invite!
Hey Bren – I keep reading about it and would love to give it a try. If you still have any invites left, I’d appreciate one.
Hit me, please! And thanks for posting about the site.
Definitely would like an invite too, thanks!

Would love to take a look at this, so if you have anymore…hit me up!
Thanks!

Web-based, collaborative mindmapping! Wow. I’m just preparing a speech for a conference on “collaborative tools”, and would so love to mention something like this.
Hit Me! Please?
If you have any invites left…
Waves hand in the air from the back of the queue… me too, if you have any left!
Sara, Gord, Mark…sorry, you’re just a little too late. :-(
My advice, do what I did and sign up for the MindMeister newsletter. Maybe they’ll hook you up. If they do, then YOU’LL have 20 invites to give away! :-)
