Dreamworks Animation has created yet another movie that looks like a hit. Monsters vs. Aliens comes out in theaters today and, along with the video game, the film should be widely successful given how good the advertising has been.

The 3-D animated adventure feels almost like your classic B horror flick but with a twist – the monsters are the ones fighting off an alien attack in an effort to rescue humanity. Plus, it’s a family film so I doubt we’ll see giant tomatoes or brain-eating zombies.
The cast of celebrity voices is also pretty impressive – Reese Witherspoon takes on the role of Susan Murphy, a young girl who is hit by a meteor and turned into a giant monster named Ginormica. Stephen Colbert is President Hathaway, earth’s commander-in-chief, who must rely on the help of the monsters to keep his citizens safe. The slimy blue creature, B.O.B., is voiced by Seth Rogen (who seems to be in everything these days!) while other characters are played by Hugh Laurie (House), Will Arnett (Blades of Glory), Kiefer Sutherland (24), Paul Rudd (I Love You, Man) and many, many more.
The whole movie just looks full of “tongue-in-cheek” humor so, even if you don’t have kids, this might be a funny one to see. The trailer reminded me of Mars Attacks but it also reminded me of how silly most “alien invasion” movies are. I seriously cracked up when the newsman in the clip said “once again a UFO has landed in America – the only country UFOs ever seem to land in.” It’s so true! With all of the countries in the world, why is it that the States is always targeted. Too funny!
