mOOo…
I am not calling a cow but mOOo for mobile OpenOffice.org.
Yes – mOOo…
mOOo is a project from Java.net Development which is under mobile and embedded category. Mobile OpenOffice.org…
is to create a set of tools that make the user able to create/update ODF documents in mobile devices such as cell phones and PDA’s and also interact with the OpenOffice.org suite through these devices. All will be done using Java SE and mainly Java ME platform.
Currently, they released their first tool called mOOo Impress Controller which allows users controls slide presentations in OOo (OpenOffice.org) Impress. It is composed of a Java ME application (mobile) and a Java SE Add-On (desktop).
The user can switch slides (next and previous) while a timer (used for presentation controlling) is displayed on the screen. It uses Bluetooth for Computer-Device communication with Project Marge and UNO API for OOo integration.
For more technical details, downloads and screenshots about this tool, please click here. For future projects, they will be developing the following:
- mOOo Calc: Java ME application that allows to edit spreadsheets rows/columns and also create new ones in mobile devices;
- mOOo Writer: Java ME application that allows to read ODF text document and also edit/create new ones in mobile devices.
Again, check https://mooo.dev.java.net for more details.

Does this mean that Oo for Blackberry is in sight?
Yup. Apparently, any device that support at least CLDC 1.0 and MIDP 2.0 can use mOOo.
Can Mooo be used for S60 fifth edition.
if yes where will i get to download it
Please tell me this will be on the iPhone. This is one thing I have been waiting for, Open Office on the iPhone.
These efforts are very welcome as there will be strong demand for an office suite for mobile devices particularly once additional linux smartphone and smartbooks appear on the market. Quickoffice has done a superb job with the excellet Symbian S60 3rd edition in bringing an MS office suite for mobiles so I am sure that an equivalent linux suite is do able and would be appropriate for Maemo and LinMo devices in 2010 onwards.
