More Consumer Friendly: HD-DVD or Blu-Ray?

Came across an interesting editorial by Shane Sturgeon that was written a few days ago (November 26th) but it’s actually a very good article taking some of the myths of the formats out and also giving a good consumer-friendly comparison. First leads off with something that isn’t seen in many HD-DVD vs. Blu-Ray articles: why both formats are an improvement over standard DVDs and possibly HDTV content. Next is the “Why HD-DVD?” section which includes a good point, standardization. “Since HD DVD players began shipping, they have had one standard set of requirements for their players.” This is a good point as Blu-Ray is just now shipping players with Profile 1.1 while there are few movies that actually take advantage of it. Lower prices is also a key role in it. While there looks to be somewhat of a HD-DVD bias, it’s a very well written article worth checking out.
