More Office Competitors Online

I think I’ve decided that along with news becoming available about Office 12, I’m going to also attempt to cover any developments related to “Office like” applications becoming available on the web or off in the marketplate.
For the first entry, we’ll discuss ThinkFree hailed as “The best online office on earth”.
ThinkFree, developed by South Korea’s HANsoft, is an all-in-one suite that includes a Web-based word processor, spreadsheet, and slide presentation app. Meanwhile, the misnamed Office Live includes none of those.
It is very interesting to me that Office “Live” doesn’t have ANY real Office apps included as a part of it. Wonder what’s going on there. Are they coming, or are they just trying to use the “Office” name for name recognition value and just offer a new service entry for them to expand? Given the developments of Webtop business productivity applications like ThinkFree, if Microsoft is just using the Office name for recognition only, I believe they may be doing themselves a great disserve, both to their new product “Live” as well as their existing Office lineage.
