More on repetitive stress injuries

I don’t know why this April 2006 post from the Official Google Blog came up in FeedDemon today, but I’m glad it did:
There is a Chinese saying that “To go beyond is as wrong as to fall short.” In other words, how long can you tap on that keyboard or sit in that chair before you hurt yourself. We’re not designed to remain as sedentary or perform the fine motor movements for the long uninterrupted hours that we have to do in so many of our jobs. Evidence suggests that prolonged abnormal posture and repetitive movements contribute to neck, limb and back pain. These conditions are collectively known as overuse syndromes, or repetitive stress injury (RSI). Source: Official Google Blog: Avoiding RSI
Yeah I know I’m harping on this. There’s a reason for this. It’s really freakin important! I’ve seen what happens when people get crippled from RSI. I know that my own wrists ache often and let’s not even get into the fact that I can’t tilt my head from side to side without pain by the end of the day.
Read this. Take breaks. Really the alternative is rather unpleasant, so, take care of yourself.
